George Stephenson College occurs as college of the University of Durham in England, and one of 2 placed at Queen's Campus in Stockton-on-Tees, 37 km (23 miles) south of the city of Durham itself. These are known as when George Stephenson, the 19th century railway engineer.
History
Inside 1992 a Joint University College in Teesside of a Universities of Durham & Teesside (JUCOT) was established on the places as a joint venture between the University of Durham and the University of Teesside. This was ab initio designed to grant joint degrees validated by both institutions (BAs and BScs). Even so, Teesside, which experienced merely be the university withinside 1992, got difficulties around ingesting in its responsibilities for the college & Durham took to the full control in 1994.
The programme of integration by having Durham began, leading to the college becoming University College, Stockton (UCS) within 1996 — a college of a University of Durham & the sole college by using teaching responsibilities. Farther integration lead to a campus existence renamed a University of Durham, Stockton Campus (UDSC) around 1998, & the removal of its teaching responsibilities. Within 2001 UDSC was split into 2 colleges: a single was George Stephenson College, & a more was John Snow College.
